About the General Manager role
We’re seeking a strong leader to take the helm of a well-established EdTech business that plays a vital role in supporting exam preparation for SATs, and AQA’s GCSEs and A-levels with its respective products of TestBase and ExamPro.
Who We Are
Doublestruck is a trusted provider of digital assessment tools Exampro and Testbase, supporting thousands of teachers and students in primary and secondary school across the UK. As a wholly owned subsidiary of AQA, it has operated with agility and autonomy and is now entering a new phase of strategic alignment and growth. With the founder retiring after 30 years, we’re seeking a new General Manager to lead Doublestruck in its next phase of growth. This is a rare chance to shape the future of a respected edtech business and contribute to AQA’s wider digital assessment strategy.
Strategic Leadership Opportunity
You’ll lead the closer alignment of Doublestruck with AQA’s General Qualifications and Assessment Services businesses, develop a clear commercial strategy, product and technology roadmaps, and drive growth and profitability whilst maintaining entrepreneurial spirit and agility in a large group context. You’ll expand reach across AQA centres, scale Testbase as a key revenue stream, and support a capable leadership team. You’ll also represent Doublestruck on a new management board, contribute to governance, and help shape AQA’s digital assessment strategy. There’s potential for broader leadership roles within AQA as the business evolves.
Key Attributes and Experience
We’re looking for someone who has led a founder-led or mission-driven business through growth and maturity. You’ll bring strong commercial acumen, experience in product development and scaling, and a track record of delivering results. Doublestruck has been built on the ethos of understanding ‘what the teacher needs and how to make it easy for the teacher, with solutions rooted in classroom practice, so a strong affinity for education is important—classroom experience is welcome but not essential. Experience in edtech would be an advantage. You’ll be strategic, hands-on when needed to ensure operational rigor, and bring a visionary mindset to shaping the future of assessment and assessment for learning.
Leadership Values
You’ll lead with empathy, emotional intelligence, and a commitment to inclusive leadership in the context of the values of both Doublestruck and AQA. You’ll guide teams through change with clarity and care, and support diversity at senior levels. We value leaders who empower others, foster innovation, and create environments where people feel they belong.
Compensation and Location
Salary: Competitive executive-level package with performance-related bonus. Benefits include 25 days’ holiday, private medical insurance, a 5% employer pension contribution, and death in service benefit. The role is based in London or Guildford, with hybrid working (typically two days in the office)
Commitment to Inclusion
At AQA and Doublestruck, we’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive. We actively encourage applications from all suitably qualified individuals, regardless of background, identity, or lived experience. If you meet most of the criteria and are excited about the role, we’d love to hear from you.
